Florentine Painting: A refined classicism
Early Renaissance Florence was justifiably famous for its painters, whose techniques established a striking new visual style in the arts. (Adventures in the Human Spirit) Florentine artist were trained on what was on demand for the patrons, anatomy: to create life like figures, modeling: to suggest depth: to organize and unify the pictorial space In the painting of Holy Trinity, Tommaso di Giovanni known as Masaccio had applied his mastery of perspective. One would say that we still practice these things to this day. We need anatomy to create life like dolls, we need modeling to create volume in our movies and cartoons and we need perspective to create our art, some artist like to practice this on sidewalks.
